PostHeaderIcon Poyang Lake Jiangxi China Travel Guide And Tip

Article by Shane Lee

Located in the Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, Poyang Lake is the largest fresh-water lake in China. Having experienced many geological changes, Poyang Lake is now wide in the south and narrow in the north, like a huge gourd tied o-n the waist of the Yangtze River.Poyang Lake is a resplendent pearl o-n the vast Chinese territory. For thousands of years, Poyang Lake has been nurturing the people in Jiangxi Province and attracting visitors with her charm.Looking out over the vastness of Poyang Lake, with its blue waves that stretch to the horizon, is much like standing o-n the shore and looking out over an ocean. o-n days when the sun shines and the sky is a clear blue, the sky and the water of the lake seem to meet o-n the horizon. Sailboats o-n the lake dart back and forth, appearing to joust with the billowing clouds. Rafts float along o-ne after another like a big moving dragon. Poyang Lake is rich in aquatic plants, which create a hospitable environment for many rare species of freshwater fish. In addition, many kinds of rare birds are attracted to the lake, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers.

HiglightThe Poyang Lake Bird Protection Area is a sanctuary for many rare species of birds. Measuring 224 square kilometers (about 86 square miles) in area, it offers a mild climate and a habitat rich in aquatic plants and fish with no industrial pollution. In winter, Poyang Lake is home to the world’s largest population of birds.Every November, thousands of birds fly in from Siberia, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea, and the northeastern and northwestern regions of China. These migratory birds spend the long winter in Poyang Lake together with the native widgeons, egrets, and mandarin ducks, leaving gradually as the weather starts to warm in March. Poyang Lake is considered by many to be the largest bird sanctuary in the world. Every winter it plays host to 95% of the world’s white cranes, a fact that gives it two of its popular names: ‘World of White Cranes’ and ‘Kingdom of Rare Birds’.The white crane, which is o-ne of the world’s endangered species, is a large wading bird about 135 cm (about 53 inches) tall. All of its feathers are pure white except for a few black o-nes o-n the tips of the wings, which give it its alternate name of ‘black sleeve crane’. Its sword-like beak is brownish yellow, and it stands o-n a pair of long, pink legs. White cranes mate for life, and because they can live 70 years or more, the Chinese call them ‘immortal cranes’ and consider them a symbol of propitiousness.Serious birdwatchers use telescopes to get a good look at the birds, which are very shy and will fly away if you get too close to them. Colorful birds are everywhere, skimming the surface of the water, soaring high in the sky, or circling and diving for a morsel of food. The elegant white cranes can be seen flapping their wings and playing with each other. There are so many of them that they can look like a great white wall – a truly incredible sight.Other rare birds that can be seen here include white storks, black storks, bustards, pelicans, and many more.

Transportation and accomodation:You can fly to Nanchang first. Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi province and most big cities of China (like: Beijing, Shanghai,Wuhan, Guangzhou,Shenzhen,Hong Kong,Nanjing,Hangzhou,Chengdu,Chongqing) have non-stop flights to Nanchang. Poyang Lake is about 228 km from Nanchang. (You can drive to Poyang Lake and the cost is 120 rmb for the high way fees and 112 rmb for the gas) In your way, you will see Jiujiang city. The hotels in Jiujiang are much better than the ones in Poyang Lake. You can choose them if you don’t like the Hostels(or inns) in Poyang Lake. These inns are much cheaper of course, only cost 40-70 rmb for a night. Another option is Nanchang, it is easy to find 4 stars or 5 stars hotels there. The cost is 300-800 rmb for a night.

Eat:Lots of people recommend the fish and crab here. Not a bad choice for the tourists.

Bird watch spot:Poyang Lake is a popular destination for birdwatchers. You need to get up early in the morning if you wanna go to this bird watch spot. All the birds will fly away if you get there late. A powerful telescope is very useful for a birdwatcher. You don’t need a tour guide any more if you get a good telescope. The admission fee is 15 rmb for a person.

PostHeaderIcon Maldives Travel Guide (from China to Maldives)

Article by Shane Lee

Visa:Maldives offers 30 days’ Visas on arrival for all the tourists, but a Chinese citizen will not be able to leave China without a Visa. In this case, all the Chinese tourists have to get a Visa from a third country first, usually from Singapore or Malaysia. If you are travelling through a travel agency, they will help you to get this third country Visa. It is also not a big problem if you don’t wanna use a travel agency. Now it is easy for a Chinese citizen to get a Visa from Singapore,Malaysia or Thailand.

Airlines to Maldives:There is no non-stop flights between China and Maldives. You can have 3 options for your Maldives flight: Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines. The Sri Lankan Airlines provides the cheapest flights to Maldives, you will have to get to Hongkong first then transfer to Colombo (capital of Sri Lankan). The Singapore Airlines provides the best service but the cost is also the highest. Malaysia Airlines’ flight ticket is cheaper than Singapore Airlines, more expensive than Sri Lankan Airlines. You will need to transfer to Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malaysia) and they only fly on Wednesday and Saturday. For the airport tax, the Hongkong airport costs 100 Hongkong dollars and Maldives airport costs 10 US dollars.

Camera:For Maldives, the most famous things are the blue sky,sea and beach. A Digital Camera with CPL is very suitable for this place. You will not be able to get very beautiful pictures if you are using a common DC. If you are a good diver, an underwater camera is a must have in Maldives. The hotels can provide this kind of camera for sure. But the cost is not low, about 21 US dollars for a full moon plus 10% service fees. If you are planning to visit Malaysia first, it is not easy to buy a underwater camera there. A lot of people tried to find one in the Kuala Lumpur Airport but didn’t make it. Some people say there are underwater cameras in Singapore Airport, but the cost is not known. Maldives is amazing and you will run out of your films here very quickly. I will suggest you take two underwater cameras with you if you are planning to join the REEL SNORKELING.

Water:You can not drink the tap water in the hotels here. A 1.5 L water costs 3.5 US dollars and 300 ml coke costs 2.5 US dollars. Some people bring water to Maldives to save money. (about 500 ml/day for a person will be enough) A interesting thing here is that you can not bring your water or drinks to the restaurants. Some service fees will be charged to your bill if you do so.

Power Conversion:Maldives’ electricity power is the same as China (220 V), but the plug is different. Some hotels provides electric power convertors to the tourists, some don’t. You can bring one from China for your own convinience.

Tips:There is no tips in China but it is different in Maldives. The waiters here have very low salary and depend on the tips from tourists. Usually 1 US dollar is ok. You can pay more for sure if you like.

Cell phone:You can use your China Mobile cell phone here if you have the mobile international roaming service. You can call 10086 to activate this service in China. The cell phone signal here is very good and the cost is 4.99 rmb/minute for calling Maldives, 12.99 rmb/minute for calling China. The short message costs 1.99 rmb for one.

Currency and Credit Card:Maldives accepts US dollars but you can use RMB in the Malaysia Airport. If your credit cards are VISA or MASTERCARD with 2 currencies (RMB and US dollars), they are good to use here. You don’t need to carry a lot of cash for your Maldives vacation. All you need is some 1 dollar bills(for the tips) and a credit card.

PostHeaderIcon China vacations travel guide – Shenzhen travel info

Article by Shane Lee

This article is about the China vacations and Shenzhen travel. You can find some useful information in it if you are planning your Shenzhen travel now.

Shenzhen is a city of sub-provincial administrative status in southern China’s Guangdong province, situated immediately north of Hong Kong. Owing to China’s economic liberalization under the policies of reformist leader Deng Xiaoping, the area became China’s first – and ultimately most successful – Special Economic Zone. The best time to visit Shenzhen is October – March (next year).

Eat in Shenzhen:There are all kinds of restaurants in Shenzhen and the price is not high. The sea food here is very cheap comparing with other big Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, etc. If you are a student, you can find the delicious Guilin ground rice all over Shenzhen and it is only about 5 – 7 rmb. The Mcdonald’s and KFC are also very easy to find here in Shenzhen. For the big Chinese restaurants, you can try the special price dishes first. Sometimes you can get very good deals in these places (Young pigeon for 8 rmb, 1 kilogramme of shrimp for 16 rmb).

Hotels in Shenzhen:If you have some friends working in the big companies of Shenzhen, you can ask them to book the hotels for you. Usually, the employees of these big Shenzhen companies can get very good deals for you (comparing with what you can get online). The hostel is another good option for you. I recommend the Zdwe Hostel of Shenzhen. It is located in: 16 Tonggulu Street, 5th floor of Zhonghelou building, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. The cost is very low here (only 20 rmb for one person). Here is the phone number: 0136 – 0253 – 5943.

Taxi and bus services in Shenzhen:The taxi service is a little bit expensive in Shenzhen. The city bus is another good option for your Shenzhen travel. You can call the number – 160, if you don’t know which bus can take you to your destination. The buses in Shenzhen are all self-service ticketing buses and you will need to prepare some coins for them. The services of these buses are not bad and you can ask the bus driver to tell you when and where to get off. ( From Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM, you can get more info about the China vacations, Lhasa travel and Beijing flights. )

The scenic spots of Shenzhen:

(1). Dameisha and Xiaomeisha Beaches: Dameisha and Xiaomeisha beaches are located at Dapeng Bay. Dubbed “Hawaii of the East,” the beaches are popular recreational areas during holidays.

(2). Overseas Chinese Town:Located in the western part of Shenzhen, Overseas Chinese Town embraces the theme parks of Window of the world, Splendid China, China Folk Culture Villages and Happy Valley. The parks feature a wide variety of replicas of natural scenery and historical architecture, reflecting the essence of traditional Chinese and international culture. The area serves as a model for the city in urban planning, construction and horticulture.

(3). Shennan Thoroughfare: Running through downtown Shenzhen and extending 17.2km, Shennan Thoroughfare is one of the busiest streets in Shenzhen. Many landmark buildings are along this street. It is also a representation of Shenzhen’s night scenery.

PostHeaderIcon China Vacations Travel guide – Lijiang Travel

Article by Shane Lee

This article is about the China vacations and you can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

Lijiang is a famous place for the travellers from all over the world. Both the Chinese and foreign travellers love this small town. Many foreign travellers even stay here for serveral years and open a bar or something. What they want is to enjoy the peaceful life of this ancient Chinese town.

I have been to Lijiang once and I still hope that I can visit it for a second time. Lots of people have the same feeling too. Here I will introduce you some of my experience of the Lijiang travel.

Lijiang is a small town in Yunnan, China. The town has a 800 year history from as early as the late Song Dynasty. It is built where the Jade River divides into three and its streams form the canals and waterways which flow along the old town streets. This place is very specail and you will never get to know the real Lijiang if your plan for Lijiang is only 1 or 2 days. Lijiang is a place for the travellers to stay and enjoy the simple life here. I met a girl from Chengdu on my way to Lijiang and she told me that she stayed here in Lijiang for 30 or 40 days every time she visited this place. I will recommend that you stay here for at least 5 days and this will make your Lijiang travel more interesting.( more info about China vacations at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM )

How to get in? You can fly to Lijiang from many big cities in China. Another choice is to fly to Kunming first. Kuming is also a famous tourism city. It is called the “Spring City” because of its good climate. You can get fresh flowers at very good deals(3 rmb for a dozen of roses). There are many tourists’ bus heading to Dali from Kuming. You can take the bus at 10 pm and it will arrive at Dali on 6 am next day. Dali is an old Chinese town and has lots of interesting things to see(Traditional chinese dance, wax painting, etc). The bus from Dali to Lijiang starts at 5 pm every day.

The hotels in Lijiang: It is not wise to choose a regular hotel for your Lijiang travel and you will lose all the fun here if you stay in a hotel. Lijiang is a very unique place in the whole world and you can only feel this kind of unique attraction when you live in it(in the old inns of Lijiang). Nobody knows the number of inns in Lijiang. All the inns here are very specail. (cost 20-150 rmb a night) The names of the inns are also very interesting. They are like “longmen inn”, “Yeyuxuan inn”,”Bulage innt”, etc(names from the old Chinese novels). I will recommend the “Yulong inn” here. The owner of this inn is very nice and the price is reasonable. (tel: 0888-5125630, cell phone:13988825550)

Eat in Lijiang: You can find lots of good snacks in Lijiang like “Lijiang baba”, “Jidouliangfen”,”Jiantudou”,”Jizhimixian”. They are the favourites of the young girls. For the males, you can try the “Heishanyangtourou”, it is a very delicious local food and you will never find something like this in other places! (Tips: do not eat in the restaurants near Sifang Street. They are too expensive and food there are not the real Lijiang food.)

PostHeaderIcon Changsha travel guide – Info for your China vacations

Article by Shane Lee

This article is about the China vacations and you can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

Changsha is the capital of Hunan Province. The history of the city dates back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC) and Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220). It is also the centre of Huxiang Culture. Encompassing 11,819 square kilometres, the city is composed of five districts and four counties with a population of 5.82 million. The area and population of the city proper are 554 square kilometres and 1.51 million respectively. The city lies in the rich Xiangjiang Plain. The yearly average temperature is 17.2 C’. At the end of 1998, Changsha was named China’s “excellent tourist city.” The mainstay industries of Changsha are food, electronics, machinery, chemicals, building materials, textiles, pharmaceuticals and metallurgy. Traditional export products including Hunan embroidery, fireworks, pottery, porcelain and granite enjoy a good reputation in the international market.

Changsha is not a very big city and you don’t need a tour guide here. There are some good places for you if you are a big fan of Karaoke:

(1). Wensha: It is located in the famous Huangxinlu Street of Changsha. Wensha is most people’s first choice for Karaoke in Changsha. The price is a little bit high but the sound systems are perfect. There is no free buffet in it. ( small room: 380 rmb for 4 hours, middle room: 620 rmb for 4 hours. ) The phone number for reservation: 0731-2827777. There are no enough small rooms in Wensha and you’d better make a reservation if you need a small room in Wensha.

(2). Party World (Qiangui): It is a very famous KTV brand in China. There is another “Diamond Party World (Zhuanshi Qiangui)” in Changsha and it has nothing to do with the Party World. The “Diamond Party World” is very expensive and their services are terrible. The real Party World is located in the opposite of Xilandeng Hotel. To get here, you can get a taxicab and just tell the driver to go to the Party World (Qiangui) close to the Xilandeng Hotel. The bus is not a good choice for your Changsha travel because their serives are not so good here.

(3). Haoledi: The sound systems here are not bad and price is not high. Only 168 rmb for a night ( 4-5 hours). Haoledi is close to the big ferris wheel of Changsha and you can see the night scenes of Changsha after your Karaoke if you like. The view is not bad here.

If you are looking for some cheap hotels or motels in Changsha, here are some good options for you: 7 Days Inn, Friendship Hotel, Hanting Inns & Hotels. They are all in the famous Huangxinlu Street and the price is not high. ( You can find more information about the China vacations, Beijing flights and Lhasa travel at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM )Another thing you need to know is that there are many thieves in Changsha and you have to be very careful about your cell phone or bags. My friend lost 3 cell phones and 2 wallets in a year here.

Eat in Changsha: The snacks here are very attractive to the travellers. The most famous restaurant here is the Huogongdian (in Huangxinlu Street). It is called a “restaurant with a history of more than 100 years”. This place is also Chairman Mao’s ( The 1st president of P.R.China ) favourite. I like the Buliaoguo here. It is in the Huangxinlu Street too and is notable of its chafing dishes. The chafing dishes here are cheaper than the Huogongdian.

PostHeaderIcon Longhu Mountain Jiangxi China Travel Guide And Tips

Article by Shane Lee

Longhu Mountain is a key national scenic spot is 20 kilometers southwest suburb of Yingtan City, Jiangxi Province. It is said that Zhang Tianshi made pills of immortality here in the middle period of East Han dynasty, so it becomes the cradle of Chinese Taoism. Bamboo raft is the principal way of touring Longhu Mountain. So the best time to visiting the mountain by water is during April to October. If traveling along the overland route, visitors can get there at any season during a year. You can pick the green in spring, enjoy the cool in summer, see the golden country in autumn and see the snow scene of Longhu Mountain in winter.

Shangqing Palace(Shangqinggong), first built in East Han Dynasty, is the place for Zhang Daoling to pray and the place where all gods received their official ranks. The entire construction layout presents the Eight Diagrams, has a two-eaved roof and red door, showing the unique style of Taoist temple. There are a total of ninety-nine peaks, twenty-four boulders, and o-ne hundred and eight natural and artificial sights. The long Taoist culture, the characteristic green water and red mountain and the grand cliff group form the three brilliant sights of this area. The Lu Xi River, like a jade belt, meanders westwards through the whole mountain area and strings Shangqing Palace, Longhu Mountain and Xianshui Rock, etc.

Tips:1. Travel by train is not a bad idea because you can enjoy the good views from the window, eating your favourite snacks in the train. It is still a good option for the tourists, comparing with travelling by air.2. The bus from Yingtan to Shangqinggong costs 6 rmb/person and this trip is about 1 hour’s ride.3. Shangqinggong is not an old temple and you don’t need to pay the 20 rmb to enter it. You can just take some pictures at the entrance of Shangqinggong temple.4. Tianshifu is totally a new building. (not any ancient Daoism temple) The admission fee is 30 rmb/person. It is not a wise decision to visit this place.5. The bus from Shangqinggong to Shangqingzhufamatou cost 1 rmb/person and the trip takes only 5 minutes.6. The Shangqingzhufamatou – Xianshuiyan drifting cost 100 rmb/person(takes 3 hours). You can get a tour guide for this activity at the cost of 30 rmb.7. From Xianshuiyan to Yingtan: In winer, the last bus is at 17:30. In summer, the last bus is at 18:00. You will have to get a taxi cab if you miss the last bus. The cost is about 40 rmb for the taxi and the trip takes 45 minutes.8. There are many restaurants in Shangqinggong. But the cost are not low because it is a tourism area in China. The food in Yingtan city is much better than Shangqinggong.9. Lots of people recommend a restaurant named Yiweichi. It is close to the Yingtanfandian in the Yingtan city. The decorations of Yiweichi is very special and the food here is special too. The cost is about 60 rmb for a person. The only thing you need to pay attention is that all the food here is very spicy in Jiangxi province.10. There is a good hostel near the Yiweichi restaurant. Its name is Xinyuanfandian. It is a very good choice for the tourists who want to save some money. The cost is only about 30 rmb for a person. Another advantage of this hostel is its location, very close to the railway station. (costs ony 3 rmb for the taxi)

PostHeaderIcon Travel Guide For Your China Vacations-Shangri-La

Article by Shane Lee

This article is about the China vacations and you can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

In the year 1893, James Hilton described an eternally peaceful and quiet place among mountains in the East – “Shangri-La” in one of his novels for the first time. In the novel “Lost Horizon”, an English diplomat Conway and his brother Gorge scattered the English citizens and helped them leave the dangerous region. On their way home, their plane was hijacked and fell down into the mountain in the Tibetan region. Some lucky survivors were taken to Shangri-la where Conway found lots of fantastic things in such a state founded nearly 200 years ago, in which the local people lived up to more than one hundred years old and lived peacefully and harmoniously with the other people, animals and everything here. The place was called “Shangri-La” by the local folks.

Shangri-La is located in the Tibetan areas of Yunnan province. The word “Shangri-La” comes from the Tibetan Holly Bible.

1. What is the best season for the Shangri-La travel?Generally, the best time to visit Shangri-La is from May to November. You can see the beautiful Buzhimin flowers here during this period of time.

2. The attractions in Shangri-La:Most travellers like the Songzanlin Temple, Bita Lake and Shuoduo Lake. These place are not bad choices for the travellers but they are a little bit too crowded and the tickets are not cheap. I will recommend some specail places for your Shangri-La travel in this article. In my point of view, the most attractive thing of Shangri-La is the beautiful natural scenes, not the culture or history of Tibet. (1). Wufeng Mountain and Dabao Temple: This trip not difficult and needs 4 to 5 hours. You can see some unique Tibetan villages in this trip. The hotspring is also a good option for you.(2). Qianhu Mountain: You will see the Tibetan Holy Lake in this trip. (3). Shige Snow Mountain: This trip is not a easy one and you’d better find a good tour guide if you are really interested in this mysterious place.

3. Eat in Shangri-La:There are many nations in Shangri-La and the food here is also various. I will recommend some restuarants I like here:(1). XIN’S Eats: It is a small but lovely restaurant. The food here is delicious and you can ask the chef to cook your dishes the way you like. Here is the phone number: 013988742139. It is in the opposite of the Zangdi hostel, Heping Street.(2). Crow Bar: It is a specail bar in Shangri-La and you can find some local beers here(cost 10 rmb for one).

4. Hostels:The most famous hostels here are the Yongsheng Hostel and Zangdi Hostel. They were very good choices for your Shangri-La travel. But their services are not so good now in my mind. I lived in a hostel named Longmen Hostel last year and this place is pretty cool. It is owned by a young man and his girlfriend. They are very nice to the travellers and the rooms there are clean and lovely. Here is the phone number of this hostel: 0887-8228178.

Mount Mingyue is located 31 kilometers southwest of Yichun city, in Jiangxi Province of China. It is featured by the charming natural scenery, rare selenium hot springs and centuries-old Zen culture. Mingyue Mountain consists of tens of mountains such as Taiping Mountain, Yujing Mountain, Lao Mountain and Yangshan.
