Located in the Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, Poyang Lake is the largest fresh-water lake in China. Having experienced many geological changes, Poyang Lake is now wide in the south and narrow in the north, like a huge gourd tied o-n the waist of the Yangtze River.Poyang Lake is a resplendent pearl o-n the vast Chinese territory. For thousands of years, Poyang Lake has been nurturing the people in Jiangxi Province and attracting visitors with her charm.Looking out over the vastness of Poyang Lake, with its blue waves that stretch to the horizon, is much like standing o-n the shore and looking out over an ocean. o-n days when the sun shines and the sky is a clear blue, the sky and the water of the lake seem to meet o-n the horizon. Sailboats o-n the lake dart back and forth, appearing to joust with the billowing clouds. Rafts float along o-ne after another like a big moving dragon. Poyang Lake is rich in aquatic plants, which create a hospitable environment for many rare species of freshwater fish. In addition, many kinds of rare birds are attracted to the lake, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers.

HiglightThe Poyang Lake Bird Protection Area is a sanctuary for many rare species of birds. Measuring 224 square kilometers (about 86 square miles) in area, it offers a mild climate and a habitat rich in aquatic plants and fish with no industrial pollution. In winter, Poyang Lake is home to the world’s largest population of birds.Every November, thousands of birds fly in from Siberia, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea, and the northeastern and northwestern regions of China. These migratory birds spend the long winter in Poyang Lake together with the native widgeons, egrets, and mandarin ducks, leaving gradually as the weather starts to warm in March. Poyang Lake is considered by many to be the largest bird sanctuary in the world. Every winter it plays host to 95% of the world’s white cranes, a fact that gives it two of its popular names: ‘World of White Cranes’ and ‘Kingdom of Rare Birds’.The white crane, which is o-ne of the world’s endangered species, is a large wading bird about 135 cm (about 53 inches) tall. All of its feathers are pure white except for a few black o-nes o-n the tips of the wings, which give it its alternate name of ‘black sleeve crane’. Its sword-like beak is brownish yellow, and it stands o-n a pair of long, pink legs. White cranes mate for life, and because they can live 70 years or more, the Chinese call them ‘immortal cranes’ and consider them a symbol of propitiousness.Serious birdwatchers use telescopes to get a good look at the birds, which are very shy and will fly away if you get too close to them. Colorful birds are everywhere, skimming the surface of the water, soaring high in the sky, or circling and diving for a morsel of food. The elegant white cranes can be seen flapping their wings and playing with each other. There are so many of them that they can look like a great white wall – a truly incredible sight.Other rare birds that can be seen here include white storks, black storks, bustards, pelicans, and many more.

Transportation and accomodation:You can fly to Nanchang first. Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi province and most big cities of China (like: Beijing, Shanghai,Wuhan, Guangzhou,Shenzhen,Hong Kong,Nanjing,Hangzhou,Chengdu,Chongqing) have non-stop flights to Nanchang. Poyang Lake is about 228 km from Nanchang. (You can drive to Poyang Lake and the cost is 120 rmb for the high way fees and 112 rmb for the gas) In your way, you will see Jiujiang city. The hotels in Jiujiang are much better than the ones in Poyang Lake. You can choose them if you don’t like the Hostels(or inns) in Poyang Lake. These inns are much cheaper of course, only cost 40-70 rmb for a night. Another option is Nanchang, it is easy to find 4 stars or 5 stars hotels there. The cost is 300-800 rmb for a night.

Eat:Lots of people recommend the fish and crab here. Not a bad choice for the tourists.

Bird watch spot:Poyang Lake is a popular destination for birdwatchers. You need to get up early in the morning if you wanna go to this bird watch spot. All the birds will fly away if you get there late. A powerful telescope is very useful for a birdwatcher. You don’t need a tour guide any more if you get a good telescope. The admission fee is 15 rmb for a person.

The Peruvian city of Arequipa is a calming gem of a city. Surrounded by beautiful desert mountains, this high-altitude city is a perfect complement to any Peru vacation. Also called the White City, thanks to its beautiful buildings made out with volcanic stone called silica, this city is now a World Heritage Site.

Arequipa has one of the most beautiful Plaza de Armas (central squares) in all of Peru. Full of arches, greenery and of course the stunning silica buildings, this is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a coffee. Many cafes and restaurants ring the plaza, and several have second floor balconies that offer stunning views of the center. The Cathedral sits at one end of the plaza, and has not entrance fee, but should not be visited during Mass, out of respect for the local attendees.

Perhaps the best attraction in Arequipa is the Monastery of Santa Catalina. This massive monastery takes up two city blocks, isolated from the rest of the city by tall, thick stone walls. Inside is like a whole different world. The inside of the monastery is full of winding passageways, colorful walls, chapels, and tiny rooms. This monastery is still in use, so some areas are restricted. The entrance fee is slightly more expensive, around 35 soles, but it is well worth is. You can also choose to take a guided tour of the site. This way you will gain in depth information about the monastery’s history and use. However, the facility has many information signs, and wandering around the maze of corridors can be fun as well.

After an exploration of Santa Catalina, you might want to try some of the tasty regional dishes. Unlike the rest of Peru, Arequipa is known for its spicy dishes. One local favorite is the rocto relleno, a large pepper stuffed with vegetables and meat and served with potatoes and cheese sauce.

Another interesting site to visit in Arequipa is the Museum Santury. This is where the famous frozen Juanita mummy is kept, along with other frozen mummies. Juanita’s frozen body was found at the top of a mountain. It is believed she was about 12 years old when she was killed as a sacrifice to appease angered Gods. She is carefully stored in a below freezing container in order to keep her remains preserved.

After fully exploring the city, you might want to travel to the nearby Colca Canyon. This can be done in a day trip, or you can choose to hike down in the canyon.

Article by Mikayla Pansov

Why choose Santo Domingo?Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the New World, where the settlement of all the Americas began. See the first cathedral, the first hospital. Wander down cobble stone streets among the Spanish colonial architecture and imagine how things were back in the 1600s.

No other city in the Caribbean has a greater variety of restaurants and night life. There are so many restaurants in this city that it is practically impossible even for those who live here to have visited them all. And it’s a city that never sleeps. A great place to meet people. A lot of young single executives who come here to work end up leaving (if they leave) married to a Dominican.

Santo Domingo has great shopping. Major chains from all around the world have opened branches here and more will be opening soon. Discount stores offer great prices on designer brands, the leading shops offer clearance sales several times a year and there are many designer shops for more exclusive wear.

Santo Domingo is the most bustling and diverse city in the Caribbean. It has a population of over three million inhabitants within the city and the Province of Santo Domingo and sprawls out over 250 square kilometers.

What else is nearbySanto Domingo is located on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, about mid way between the western border with Haiti and the eastern coastline. The furthest western border, the north coast and east coast are all four hour drive away. Go east and the first major town you come to is the resort town of Boca Chica. Go west and you will arrive at the Palenque and Nizao beach areas, also the newly habilitated Pomier Caves (the largest in the Caribbean). Go north and you will pass the cities of Bonao and Jarabacoa as you work your way through the highest mountains in the Caribbean.

How to get to Santo DomingoLas Americas International Airport is located to the east of Santo Domingo, about 30 minutes away from the heart of the city. It receives direct scheduled flights from: United States: American Airlines (New York, Miami, Boston), Delta (New York), Continental (Newark), Spirit (Fort Lauderdale), US Airways (Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia). Caribbean: American Eagle and Iberia (San Juan, Puerto Rico), American Eagle and Liat (Antigua), American Eagle (Saint Martin), Aserca (Caracas), Bahamas Air (Nassau), Dutch Bird, Aeropostal (Curacao), Aeropostal (Aruba), Air Antillas (Pont-a-Pitre), Air Caraibes (Pont-a-Pitre, Fort de France, Port-au-Prince), Air Jamaica (Kingston), BWIA Airlines (Curacao, Trinidad), Cubana de Aviacion (Havana). Latin America: Copa (Panama City). Europe: Martinair (Amsterdam), Air France (Paris), Iberia, Air Europa, Air Plus Comet (Madrid), LTU (Frankfurt). There are charter flights to Toronto, Canada.Inexpensive coach bus transport is available from North and East destinations.

Getting aroundMost tour groups will be bussed into the city in large chartered busses. If you are traveling individually, you will need to take a taxi from the airport to the city which will cost about RD0. Prices are posted at the airport. Fix the price prior to leaving for your destination.

Another option is to rent a car. It is pretty straight forward driving into the city – take the Las Americas Expressway westbound until you pass over the Duarte Bridge and continue onto the 27 de Febrero overpass system. The cheapest way to get from the airport to the city is to take a taxi or motoconcho (motorcycle taxi if you have no luggage) up to the highway about 1/2 mile. From there, you can take a public bus to Santo Domingo.

Within Santo Domingo there are excellent radio-taxi services. You can call a taxi that for RD0 (with air-conditioner) will get you to most points. These taxis will usually arrive in around five minutes. Befriend a taxi driver and he can become your tour guide, assisting you with many of your needs. Other forms of public transport are the “carros publicos” (multi-fare taxis), the Conatra and Fenatrano minibuses, the OMSA large buses and car rentals. For more information, see our Transport Page

Best ports of entrySanto Domingo has two international airports. These are the Las Americas International Airport and the Herrera International Airport. The Santo Domingo Port receives some cruise ships but is set for major renovations in 2005.

Plentiful holidayers love visiting and staying near Italy’s Lake Garda, and no wonder – it is a thoroughly breathtaking sight, with an impressive roster of nearby attractions. Also close to Lake Garda is the Bella Italia campsite where many camping holidays offered by us take place. If you have yet to visit the Lake Garda, then what better opportunity could there be to do so than through one of these camping holidays?

It may be a cliche to cite a holiday as offering “something for everyone”, but holidays in the Bella Italia campsite certainly come close to fitting this description. If, for instance, you want to get active, then there is a swimming pool complex and opportunity to play tennis.
If, on the other hand, you just want some entertainment, then you can watch out for the competitions and games organised by the entertainment team at the Bella Italia campsite. And if you just want to marvel at some gorgeous scenery? Well, you are already close to the Lake Garda when staying at the Bella Italia campsite, and there is plenty other eye candy to see close by.

All of this, however, only hints at the true extent of the enjoyment of spending time at this Bella Italia campsite, so why not visit the our website to learn more?

Travel Insurance is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of preparing for a trip. Getting the right insurance cover is very important. Choose the wrong policy and if the worst happens you could find that you are not covered – do be aware of what you are covered for and what you need to arrange separate insurance for. By the same rule, visiting a foreign country on a short city break is very low risk and you might well be covered for medical expenses by national reciprocal agreements. In this case, travel insurance recommended by many travel agents is extremely expensive, mainly due to commission plus administrative costs, and you will pay disproportionately to the risk by a huge factor.

The City of Angels is known to provide almost every luxury one can think of. Yet there is always a pinch of convenience, which one can add to the grand design. As mentioned above, the city of angels provides every luxury known to man and with the recent push in efforts to bring the luxury closer to the airport there have been a number of beautiful hotels inaugurated for the purpose of adding convenience to the letters of luxury. The closeness to the airport has been a really big addition to the incredible amount of convenience that the hotel already provides in terms of accommodation and transport support for the keen traveler. Lax hotels have also added to the advantage list in many other ways.

The ones who have really benefited from the surge in the numbers of lax hotels have surely been business travelers who would rather not wait endless hours at the airport itself but would love a chance to freshen up in the few hours that they may have between flights. A second section of people who have benefited are those looking to spend a night in the location as a stopover and yet would want to go around the place. For them the vicinity of such hotels allows them to control the entire duration of their stay and manage a bit of sightseeing in the process.

The strength in numbers for lax hotels also means that a person is spoilt for some of the best choices in terms of accommodation. The winner in every situation however is the customer who can now enjoy the best in terms of convenience as well as the promised land of luxury in the city of angels. Who says being spoilt for choices was even possibly a bad thing?

Srinagar, a romantic Kashmiri city situated around glistening lakes and snowy tree forested mountain slopes, is a lively, vibrant, and organic canal city, with one on the most pleasant climates in all of India. The summer paradise for many of the great rulers of antiquity, Srinagar lays claim to many wonderful opportunities for exploration and relaxation, such as hiking in the unique destinations scattered around the fabled valley, or reading a lovely novel while resting in an ornate floating palace.Tourist Attraction in Srinagar* Chatti Padshahi GurudwaraThe sixth guru of Sikhism travelled through Kashmir, stopping to preach occasionally and a gurudwara has been built at the exact site of each of these halts. The most important one being Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara near the Kathi Darwaza in Rainawari.* Shalimar Garden The Garden, 15 Kms from the city centre, was built by Emperor Jahangir for his beloved wife, Nurjahan. The gardens with four terraces are 539 by 182 meters and gets water from Harwan through a canal lined with fountains. The fourth terrace was once reserved for royal ladies. * Kheer BhavaniThe Goddess Ragnya Devi symbolised as a sacred spring at Tula Mula village, 27 kms from Srinagar. It is believed that the goddess changes the color of the waters. The temple-spring complex is affectionately known as Kheer Bhavani. Devotees offer milk and kheer at this Durga mata temple, to the sacred spring that is said to change colour when warning of disaster. * Dal Lake The world famous water body described by Sir Walter Lawerence as the “Lake par-excellence”, half a kilometers from the city, is the jewel in the crown of kashmir eulogised by the poets and abudantly praised by the travellers and tourists. The lake of late has unfortunately, considerably shrunk in size causing concern to environmentalists. The Governments have chalked out an ambitious project to save the lake from extinction. * Sharika Devi TempleTo the west of the city is the hill of Hari Parbat, on which is the temple of Sharika Devi, believed to be a form of Durga Mata or Shakti. The hill is considered sacred to the Hindus. * Nishat GardenQueen Nur Jahan’s brother, Asif Khan, laid the Garden in 1633 A.D. It is situated on the banks of the Dal Lake in the backdrop of the Zabarwan hills, 11 Km.from the district headquarter of Srinagar. The Garden commands a magnificent view of the lake. Area 4,588 Sq. Kms. Weather: Baramulla district has severe cold climate in winter and a pleasant weather in summer. Each part of the district experiences snowfall during winter. Road to Gurez remains closed during winter due to snowfall. Snowfall in Gulmarg is known for winter sports. Average annual rainfall in District Baramulla has been recorded as 1270 mm. The district is worth visiting in the winters for enjoying the Snowfall and for winter sports, and also in the summers for enjoying the pleasant climate. People and Culture: Baramulla is no different from other parts of Kashmir Valley. The food habits, dress pattern, customs and traditions are the same as followed in other parts of the valley. Kashmiri is the main language of the people in the District, Pahari and Gojari are also spoken in Uri and areas near foothills of Gulmarg and Bandipora. Sheena (Dard) is the local language in Gurez and Tulail areas. The people also speak Urdu. How to get There: By airFlights are operated by Jet Airways, Air Deccan, Spice Jet, Kingfisher Airlines and Indian Airlines from Delhi to Srinagar, or with a stopover at Jammu. The frequency is once or twice a day by each airline. The cost is approx Rs. 2,500 from Jammu and approx Rs. 2,500-5,000 from Delhi one way. The airport is still quite small and all flights originate in Dehli, pick up passengers and then return. It is also still heavily fortified and expect to see many soldiers with guns. By taxiHiring a TATA Sumo SUV from Jammu costs approximately Rs.1, 900-2,700 depending on time of year or even time of day. To reduce costs many people choose not to take an exclusive taxi, and share the Sumo taxi with other travellers. This costs about Rs. 150-400 per person. By busJ&K SRTC operates fairly comfortable buses from Jammu costing around Rs 150 and do the journey in around 12 hours.
